Non-paraffined Gelcoat for fiberglass repairs and finishing.
Nazza Gel Coat is a paint based on orthophthalic or isophthalic polyester resin, medium reactivity, pre-accelerated and thixotropic. It provides excellent resistance in aggressive environments, protecting against weather conditions, UV rays and hydrolysis.
Recommended Uses of Nazza Gelcoat
- Manufacturing molds and models requiring an effective barrier against environmental aggressions.
- Gelcoat for boats: coating for boat surfaces, providing highly resistant marine finishes. Polyester Gel Coat protects fiberglass hulls against UV rays, humidity, wind and continuous outdoor exposure.
- As a finishing layer. To do this, the Gelcoat must be converted into Topcoat by adding paraffin. This can be achieved by diluting the product with paraffined styrene at 2-3% (20-30 g/kg) in the gelcoat and catalyst mixture. We also offer pre-paraffined top coat.
Isophthalic or Orthophthalic: Which One Should I Choose?
Orthophthalic Gel Coat:
Higher rigidity and hardness. Suitable for general-purpose use in non-aggressive environments. Longer gel time and lower viscosity.
Isophthalic Gelcoat:
Greater resistance to water and chemical agents. Designed for prolonged exposure to high temperatures and harsh outdoor environments.
In summary, isophthalic gelcoat is recommended for outdoor or aggressive-environment repairs, while orthophthalic gelcoat is suitable for less demanding applications and fiberglass repairs.
How to Apply Gel Coat
This paint requires catalyst (MEK Peroxide), and the ratio depends on the season.
Winter Catalyzation
- 1 Kg gelcoat → 20-25 ml catalyst
- 5 Kg gelcoat → 120-125 ml catalyst
- 25 Kg gelcoat → 500 ml catalyst
Summer Catalyzation
- 1 Kg gelcoat → 15 ml catalyst
- 5 Kg gelcoat → 75 ml catalyst
- 25 Kg gelcoat → 375 ml catalyst
Additional Considerations
- Hardens at room temperature by adding 25 cm³ of Nazza MEK peroxide per 1 Kg of gelcoat.
- For optimal curing, the molded piece should not be used until 7 days after finishing.
- Consecutive layers with intervals longer than 24 hours are not recommended.
- Can be applied with roller, brush or spray gun, diluted beforehand with styrene at 5-10% (50-100 g/kg) depending on desired viscosity.
- Recommended thickness: 500-600 g/m². Layer thickness should not exceed 0.8 mm.
