Detailed description
Garmin GPSMAP 1223xsv: A connected helm
The Garmin GPSMAP 1223xsv brings navigation, boat information and compatible equipment functions into one installation. It is designed for a helm that can grow with the boat's requirements, from checking position and preparing a passage to adding radar, instruments or fishing information. Combination views help relate mapping to available data and let you choose the information most useful for cruising, manoeuvring or searching for a fishing mark.
Display and controls
This version has a 12-inch display. Touchscreen. The resolution and dimensions in the table apply to this model, allowing console space to be checked before installation. Views can be organised to show mapping alongside information from connected equipment. Field sizes and data arrangements allow the interface to be adapted to the helm while retaining the navigation reference.
Navigation and mapping
Navigation features allow waypoints to be saved, routes to be planned and tracks to be recorded. This part number is supplied with a worldwide basemap for general reference; detailed local navigation charts are not included. Optional Garmin Navionics+ and Garmin Navionics Vision+ charts are supported. Coverage, advanced features and updates depend on the selected chart and subscription. Auto Guidance+, where supported with suitable charts, is a planning aid: always check the route against actual conditions, depth and the boat’s limitations.
Garmin SailAssist offers sailing information such as laylines, start-line assistance and polar tables. Wind data and other values depend on compatible sensors and correct configuration. These tools help interpret manoeuvres and adjust sailing performance while the skipper remains in control and checks the surroundings.
Sonar and expansion
Built-in traditional CHIRP sonar is combined with ClearVü and SideVü scanning. Traditional sonar helps study fish and the water column; ClearVü shows structures beneath the hull, while SideVü extends the search to either side. A fishing transducer is sold separately and must be selected for the connector, frequencies, hull and working depth. Unit capability does not mean every sensor is supplied. Compatible Panoptix or LiveScope systems can also be added with separately purchased modules and transducers. Performance depends on installation, water conditions and operating frequency.
Networks, instruments and ActiveCaptain
NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connections integrate compatible instruments and equipment for onboard information. Garmin Marine Network allows information to be shared with supported devices such as other plotters, radar, cameras and sonar sources. Built-in Wi-Fi links ActiveCaptain to a compatible smartphone for software updates and mapping functions. AIS, VHF, autopilot, audio and engine information require the relevant equipment and connections. Display compatibility does not mean these accessories are included.
Version and equipment
This bundle adds the GMR 18 HD3 radome and Garmin’s listed installation items to the chartplotter. Following installation and setup, radar and navigation information can be used together. The radar requires a suitable mounting position and power supply. A fishing transducer is not included. The price applies to the complete bundle under this part number, rather than to the standalone chartplotter.
