Detailed description
Garmin radar GMR Fantom 256 · black
Garmin part number: K10-00012-35 · EAN: 0753759331474
A marine radar displays echoes from coastlines, vessels, obstacles and precipitation on a compatible Garmin chartplotter. This model adds another source of information at the helm, allowing the radar picture to be assessed alongside charts and direct observation.
GMR Fantom 256 · 6′ · 250 W · 96 NM. Antenna and pedestal included; display and heading sensor not included.
Features for interpreting your surroundings
This package includes an open-array antenna and solid-state pedestal with pulse compression. MotionScope uses Doppler processing to colour-highlight moving targets and distinguish approaching or receding movement. Dual range shows two independently controlled ranges on a compatible chartplotter. Auto Bird Gain helps identify flocks of birds, while echo trails assist with interpreting movement. Dynamic automatic gain, a dynamic sea filter, guard zone and VRM/EBL measurement tools support radar operation. The narrow beam helps separate nearby echoes. Antenna parking position is programmable. Operation at 48 rpm requires single-range mode, MotionScope switched off and a range of 12 NM or less.

Networking and installation
A compatible Garmin chartplotter is required and sold separately. Check the display model, software version and network architecture before installation; an Ethernet connector alone does not guarantee compatibility. Chart overlay and MARPA tracking require suitable data and sensors. A heading sensor and any accessories not listed in the package must be purchased separately. Installation must follow the manufacturer’s safety distances and instructions, using a secure mounting surface, protected power supply and appropriate cable routing.
Use and selection
Maximum ranges are nominal figures. Mounting height, target size and material, sea state and weather affect actual detection. Transmit power and electrical consumption are different measurements. Radar complements a proper lookout and established navigation practices, and its echoes must be interpreted in context. Before installation, check the antenna sweep area or radome diameter, the strength of the mounting structure and access to the connections.
