Detailed description
Garmin radar GMR 18 xHD3
Garmin part number: 010-02841-00 · EAN: 0753759320744
A marine radar displays echoes from coastlines, vessels, obstacles and precipitation on a compatible Garmin chartplotter. This model adds another source of information at the helm, allowing the radar picture to be assessed alongside charts and direct observation.
GMR 18 xHD3 · 18″ · 4 kW · 48 NM. Radome included; display and heading sensor not included.
Features for interpreting your surroundings
The magnetron produces high-definition images with digital processing. Scan averaging reduces interference and helps identify consistent targets. Angular target-size processing and pulse expansion improve their on-screen representation. True echo trails help assess tracks while accounting for your own vessel’s movement. Dual range displays two independently controlled ranges with overlay on a compatible chartplotter. Auto Bird Gain, dynamic automatic gain, a dynamic sea filter, guard zone and VRM/EBL measurements are included. MARPA can track up to 30 targets with suitable sensors. This magnetron range does not include the Fantom family’s Doppler MotionScope feature.

Networking and installation
A compatible Garmin chartplotter is required and sold separately. Check the display model, software version and network architecture before installation; an Ethernet connector alone does not guarantee compatibility. Chart overlay and MARPA tracking require suitable data and sensors. A heading sensor and any accessories not listed in the package must be purchased separately. Installation must follow the manufacturer’s safety distances and instructions, using a secure mounting surface, protected power supply and appropriate cable routing.
Use and selection
Maximum ranges are nominal figures. Mounting height, target size and material, sea state and weather affect actual detection. Transmit power and electrical consumption are different measurements. Radar complements a proper lookout and established navigation practices, and its echoes must be interpreted in context. Before installation, check the antenna sweep area or radome diameter, the strength of the mounting structure and access to the connections.
